Happee is an Indo-Brazilian brand, founded in 2014, born of the seam of these two concerns. Letícia Sales, Brazilian, graduated in Fashion Design from FASM in São Paulo, and Peeyush Rastogi, Indian, with a degree in mechanical engineering. Leticia came from a trajectory of many experiences working in the fashion industry in several countries. And the more she knew, the more her annoyance grew with a common model of low pay and appreciation of the workforce. Peeyush, on the other hand, dreamed of having a business of his own. He had experience in business management and, after knowing very closely the realities of extreme inequality and poverty in his country, he was determined to do something that, besides profit, could have a positive impact on society.

Thus, these two young people started the journey of launching a social business in the fashion industry and with a strong orientation to value people and remunerate them in a fair and adequate way.

The life of an artisan

Small artisans and farmers are generally in situation of vulnerability. Apart from the really low income, they have been facing harsh competition from mass produced goods. Loss of market, declining skills and financial struggle end up making many artisans abandon their centuries old crafts to become unskilled labor in big cities. This situation perpetuates the cycle of poverty and endanger beautiful craftsmanship which have been perfected for hundreds or thousands of years.

How we create impact

At Happee, we seek to value and empower Indian artisans in two ways: training and generation of income.

Training

For each product sold, we donate 2USD to sponsor the education of HIV+ children of Rays NGO in Jaipur, India. Apart from this, we occasionally organize educational activities and donate school suppliers to the NGO. With time, we plan on expanding our social work to other countries as well, such as Brazil.

Generating income

Putting the rural artisan at the center of our production has the decisive intention of offering decent work and income opportunities, valuing their art and their stories and consequently the Indian rural economy. Furthermore, taking this rural art to the catwalks and to the streets is a way to value and recognize its importance, in addition to making it accessible, popular and immortal.

All of our products are handmade or contain raw materials which are handmade by Indian artisans. This way, we can provide them a steady demand for their work and adequate and constant income. We also plan on starting to organize workshops and training sessions, in order to improve more and more their skills and quality of their work.

*This chart may vary a little from other charts, as there is no international standard for shoe sizes.
